I realize that normal people go out for dinner and maybe a movie for a date night. Nick and I never really got into that routine. Most of our date nights in college started around midnight when I got kicked out of the practice rooms and we'd walk around the neighborhoods of Roseville. Often in the rain. Or snow. It was my work-off-steam-before-starting-homework-at-1am routine, and you know, it worked pretty well. Usually. But that's a topic for a different day. Right now we're talking about dates.
Now that we are officially soon-to-be homeowners of a cute little fixer-upper, our date nights have morphed into all things kitchen. Tuesday night we ran to a Stone and Tile (highly recommend it, by the way. If you're into that kind of thing) to pick out countertops. And possibly floors and a backsplash. Mission accomplished! Well, countertops at least. I'm super excited about what we found but you're going to have to wait until we actually get it to see pictures. So there.
Tonight we found ourselves both home at 7pm so we decided to embark on our next adventure; picking out appliances. I have no trouble finding appliances I like. I just can't find price tags I like. I mean, really. $2,500 for a refrigerator? Really. Not in my world, folks. And, did you know that you'll pay $100 more just to get it in stainless steel? Yup. Awesome. We did find some great package deals, but we have some time before we actually have a place to put these expensives hunks of metal, so we're still shopping.
And the last update in the house saga is that we received an official letter with our closing date and time today! Sometime after 2pm on April 11 we'll actually own this house you keep hearing about. Until then, well, you just get to keep hearing about it.
After 6+ years of marriage, the Johnson's still do not have a regular "date" night. However, it is quickly becoming more of a priority for us even though it is difficult to work out the logistics. Somewhere over the last year or two, time with just the two of us has become harder to find. I still think that, to an extent, date nights are only a part of the utopian marriage. Maybe I will have to unpack the statement at a later date.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the house planning. Where are you buying your cupboards from?

So my husband already was here... He's right it is never easy to make time for each other. However keeping connected can be a lot of fun if you are willing to be spur of the moment and a little crazy too.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for our tour of the house!
