This weekend didn't pan out quite like we had hoped. It was a great weekend, but we definitely didn't cross as much off the list as we wanted to.
I woke up sick on Saturday morning. A nasty cold has been working it's way through the family ever since last weekend's wedding, and apparently it was my turn on Saturday. By Sunday I was absolutely useless for anything other than sitting on the couch. So frustrating.
I did make myself useful in the doggie department, though. We had Bauer over for a sleepover Saturday night, so I took the dogs into the backyard and fell asleep in a lawn chair while they ran around. At least I'm good for something, right??
Nick, however, did manage to make some progress on the house. He was fighting the end of his cold and did a great job pushing through it to get things done.
On top of all that, everything we worked on was putzy time-consuming stuff, so it feels like we got absolutely nothing done. I know we made progress, but it doesn't necessarily feel like it.
But, here's where we are now:
We (and by "we" we mean Nick) added insulation above the buffet. We'll also be packing in a batt of insulation, but we used the pink foam as a base. On both sides of the buffet we'll use the pink foam only. Since we're adding built-ins we want to maximize the space there, so traditional batts would take up too much room.
Because of the joists running through that area Nick needed to cut slots in the foam for each joist. Time consuming, but nicely done in the end.
We also needed to add drywall around the door openings to match the existing plaster. This was an incredibly tedious process. First, the pieces were small, sometimes oddly shaped and had to be flush with the existing wall which meant a lot of scraping down by hand. We also had to drop one doorway by 1/4", so that one had an additional piece of 1/4" sheet rock added underneath. This is all the detail work that will make it look awesome and flawless in the end, but it felt like we were treading water.
Again, "we" meaning the couch-sitting me and the hard-working Nick. Just thought I'd clarify.
And, finally, Nick added corner bead to the exposed drywall corners.
So once again, our living room has been invaded by our dining room table and the couch is smooshed up against the office.
BUT. This will all be worth it in the end. I absolutely can't wait to see the finished product! I just wish "done" wasn't quite so far away....
We wrapped up the weekend with a great BBQ with our friends Josh & Mikalah. They had been warned of our germ-infested state and still came, which we're really thankful for! We had been planning our dinner date for well over a month and I didn't want to miss it. Fortunately, they were up for some extra hand washing and came over anyway. They also helped us get all the food ready and did the dishes. True friends, you guys. That's some real love for you.
Then we headed to the airport around 11:30 to pick up my honeymooning sister and brother-in-law. I'm really glad she's home, since I've spent the past week picking up my phone to call her...and then remembering she's in Mexico and probably won't take my call.
So there you have it! Our not-exactly-as-planned weekend. I hope you all stayed healthier than I did and got a lot more done. How's that weekend to-do list looking?
Hope you feel better soon! And the whole not-getting-as-much-done-as-you-wanted thing on the weekend happens, unfortunately. We didn't get nearly as much done as we had hoped! Oh well - there's always next weekend, right? ;)

Chelsea - it's frustrating, isn't it?? But I hope that means you got a little extra R&R squeezed in. And here's to next weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe had so much fun! We're just glad you guys were still up for it. =) Don't worry, the end is in sight! And, we'll be there with paintbrushes whenever you need us!
ReplyDeleteIt is going to look great. I understand though... "the end" always seems SO far away!
ReplyDeleteHope you are on the mend. It stinks when your work time is spent being sick!
Hope you're feeling better! I hate when you have big plans and then have to lay there on the couch! R&R is good though too...you obviously needed it!
