Well, they did it. Nick's marching band won grand champion at the biggest parade of the season. And not only did they win grand champ, they also won their class and swept every award in their class. Their win was by over 2 points, which is the largest spread in the 30+ year history of this parade (last year the difference between first and second was .25). They finished out the season completely undefeated. We're so proud and thrilled and absolutely exhausted!
We're also headed out of town in two days. We call this "poor planning." We've known this trip is coming up for months but it still totally snuck up on us at the last minute. As in, last Monday I called Nick and said "uh, honey? We need someone to watch the dogs. Next week." That kind of thing. Fortunately, our favorite dog watcher agreed to come stay at our house and entertain our pups and be woken up at 4am just because. Don't tell him the last part, m'kay?
So we're trying to get laundry going and details arranged and dogs cared for and suitcases packed all while trying to catch up on the sleep we've missed over the past two weeks so we're not completely sleep deprived when we head out of town.
Where are we going? Boston! This is our fourth trip in four years, so yes, it's safe to say we love the place. We'll be spending lots of time with Nick's sister and her husband, we'll see the Boston Pops play their 4th of July concert and we'll eat lots of seafood.
You can check out our previous Boston adventures here here and here.
Have you ever been to Boston? Do you have a must-see of must-eat for us to add to our list? We'd love to hear it! (Just don't say Freedom Trail. Been there, done that, Nick never wants to do it again.)
ps - We're talking about pouring concrete over at the Service Magic Connection. Lots of flashbacks to our garage-slag-pouring-adventure that happened two years ago this month.
FENWAY FENWAY FENWAY!!
ReplyDeleteBoston you say??
ReplyDeleteWell I would point you in the direction of The Lower Depths Tap Room in Kenmore - tater tots and great beer. Need I say more??
Ok - one more... East Coast Grill in Inman Square. So technically in Cambridge, yes, but so worth the trip over the bridge. Great raw bar and seafood!
Enjoy the fireworks for me - I'll sadly be out of town.
I don't have a destination comment, but I am curious where the marching band competition was. I heard nothing but marching bands in my neighborhood ALL weekend. I couldn't locate where it was coming from!
ReplyDeleteBecky - this competition was in Alexandria. We marched down main street (but they all practice by the high school). Is that your neighborhood??
ReplyDeleteHooray! As a former marching band girl (I marched for Buffalo) who absolutely LOVED parade season, my hats off to you.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if one more person announces they are going to Boston I might cry, because it is my favorite place on earth and I really need a vacation.
I guess the long weekend is a time to travel. We are planning a stay in San Francisco for 5 days. Good to see you can get away from the house from time to time.
ReplyDeletecongrats to the band!!!
ReplyDeleteand boston!! you are coming to my neck of the woods :)! have fun!
Yeah for all the band success! And have a great time in Boston! I have never been there so no suggestions for what to do, but since it is on our "must-travel" list, I will just live vicariously through you guys!
