This time last year we were trying to figure out if we were the right forever home for Beemer.
His first few weeks with us were rough. He and Shalai were figuring out what her rules were for the house. He was also learning that he was expected to obey me and Nick. Even though I'm a girl. I had a number of rules and he'd be expected to obey them. Without whining. (Beemer likes to whine. Loudly. For hours on end)
Nick and I realized that while we could read Shalai easily we had absolutely no idea what this adorable 55 pound dog was thinking. We almost threw in the towel after our two week trial. But there was a glimmer of hope at the end and we decided it was time to expand the family permanently (you can read the whole adoption story here).
I'm so glad we did.
Yes, he can still be a pain (especially during thunderstorms). But that doesn't hold a candle to how much we love the big goof. He's a sweetheart who loves loves loves to cuddle. (Especially at 3am. During a thunderstorm)
Did I ever tell you how we almost re-named him Gus? Doesn't he look like a Gus? In the end, though, we decided we wanted to honor the 6 good years he had with his first family, so we kept his name. I do still call him Gus Gus on occasion. As long as we're cuddling while I do it he really doesn't mind. (I asked)
So, no, two dogs are not easier than one (at least in our experience). But they're worth the extra work. Beemer, we're so glad you're here to stay!
So cute! Now that we are in a house and not an apartment, I cannot wait to get a dog. They give so much love! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Beemerversary!!! Just look at that face. How could you not keep him?
ReplyDeleteGood to know on the whole 2 dogs thing. I keep throwing the idea out there. Nate keeps shooting it down. Good thing there is one sane one in this relationship!
Your pup is absolutely adorable! I love spaniels (for obviously biased reasons) and their expressive little faces.
ReplyDeleteHappy Beemerversary! He's a sweetheart - so glad you kept him! :)
