We've been pretty die-hard charcoal grillers. We love the smell, love the taste, love the grill.
Except, charcoal grills are small. Trying to squeeze chicken breasts, corn on the cob and veggies onto the grill at the same time was absolutely impossible. So we'd rotate each item through, which was fine for just us, but add a couple guests to the equation and we had impossible-to-time dinners. We'd pretend we were fancy and serve it in multiple courses, but....yeah. Pretty easy to see through that one.
We thought about getting a larger charcoal grill, but it felt like we'd end up wasting an entire bag of charcoal every time we grilled. So, finally, for Nick's birthday, we upgraded.
Hello, beautiful!
We hit up 4 stores on Sunday afternoon, but ended up coming back to this Brinkmann from our good friends at Home Depot. It's gotten rave reviews for the past several years and it's priced competitively (ahh Weber, you're just too good for us). Annnnnnd it's super shiny.
But the best part? We can fit our entire dinner on the grill at the same time.
I do feel like a traitor, but we're loving the (near) instant heat-up and the space.
How about you - are you a charcoal lover or a gas griller?
So exciting! We have never had a grill because we lived in an apartment and my in-law's are getting us one for my husbands birthday. I am so excited to no longer be boiling hot dogs and baking chicken all the time! :)Enjoy this beauty!
ReplyDeleteWe were charcoal grillers as well, then got the gas grill and LOVE it!
ReplyDeletecharcoal all the way. I bought something called the turbo tunnel by Weber, which heats up the charcoal in about 15 minutes.
ReplyDeleteGas gas gas!
ReplyDeleteLove it! We have a gas grill. (Actually we have two - one at our current house and one at the new house.) They are so darn convenient that you just cannot beat them.
ReplyDeleteThat asparagus looks yummy!
We use a gas grill, and from where I sit inside in the air conditioning watching my husband grill, it seems to work great. :)
ReplyDeletePS - found your blog from Decor & the Dog. I'm a new follower!
Corey - that's totally what we needed!! Dang it. Way to stand strong with the charcoal. I miss the smell already.
ReplyDeleteKelly - welcome!! And Nick is totally the appointed grill master in our family too. Not sure why, but he does a great job so I'm happy to let him take care of it.
We're also charcoal lovers for the same reasons you listed. We've recently been considering a gas grill though. Our biggest problem with charcoal is the amount of time it takes to prep. We feel we'd cook more if we had gas.
ReplyDeleteNiiiice! We really love our gas grill. I love being able to prep dinner, and have Josh throw the meat on the grill at the last minute! It is so much easier than having to wait for charcoal to heat up. Your grill is so pretty and shiny! =)
ReplyDeleteI grew up a charcoal grill fan but Nate is a gas grill fan....and I don't cook...so I eat what is handed to me. Beggers can't be choosey. :P
ReplyDeleteWe've gone through a couple of gas grills already. (Read: We are old.) I totally know what you mean about the romance and taste of charcoal. But man. Who has the time to deal with it after getting home from work? (Corey is the grill master in our house too.)
ReplyDeleteBut now I'm wondering: I see chicken and asparagus and something wrapped in foil on your grill. What's wrapped in foil? More banana boats? ;-)
Too funny -- we had a bitty charcoal grill for a few years and this summer, himself got a gas one. It's better in terms of being able to control the temperature and, as you mentioned, the space, although I still like the flavor of things from the charcoal grill.
ReplyDeleteOooh, nice upgrade! (Your dinner looks delicious too.)
ReplyDeleteWe also have a gas grill. Charcoal would be nice, but as you said, the gas grill is bigger and just more convenient.
charcoal...just because the taste can't be beat. but....i can't say we haven't been considering having both, gas for when we are feeling lazy!
ReplyDeleteKelly - the foil-wrapped deliciousness are potatoes. Scalloped, mixed with thinly sliced onions. Topped with a couple chunks of butter, salt, pepper and some garden-fresh basil. They turned out really delicious. Yuuuum.
