Back when we bought the house there was a broom closet hiding these pipes, but in order to fit a normal fridge in that space we needed to take out the broom closet. Once the closet was out Nick and my dad created a small (permanent) enclosure to hide the plumbing.
And then we tore out said permanent enclosure because doing things twice is more fun! (Or something?) So here's how it looked before we took a hammer to it -
And here's how it looked an hour later:
With the soffit and vertical enclosure gone Nick got his first real look at all the plumbing and connections inside. He's working on reconfiguring the pipes so they'll take less space on the wall and run straight up into the ceiling instead of jogging to the left (like they do in the photo below). This little space housed several radiator pipes along with hot/cold water to the tub/shower.
I think the hardest part is yet to come (you know, the pipe-moving part) but I'm already amazed at how much more open the kitchen feels with just that chunk of extra wall out of there.
And with that little adventure behind us I think that's the last of the demolition.
At least I hope it is, because once again the kitchen (and entire main level) was covered in a
Awesome.
One step forward.....two steps back. I'm just thrilled we're moving. Even if it feels like we're moving the wrong direction.
Ugh, that dust is the worst! We put in two egress windows in a house and despite plastic and tape it was everywhere! It gets better:)
ReplyDeleteSounds....fun. I'd be horrible at remodeling. Just having our mudroom torn apart for 3 weeks was enough to drive my Type A self crazy!! Excited to see your progress though!!
ReplyDeleteOh, plaster dust. The joy. I couldn't believe the amount of plaster dust I found in our house when cleaning last weekend. It's the worst. The windows were cloudy from it.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see this come together! Progress is being made!
The dust is terrible! It's my least favorite part of projects! It seems to get every where!
ReplyDeleteIf you have any doubts you can always call a professional plumber. Thank and hope that helps.
