pupdate

It's been a long week for Shalai. After her stitches a week ago she's been back to the vet 3 times, and worked her way through 6 bandages.

We've tried bitter apple, Stop Lick, athletic tape, sedatives and the cone of shame, but she still managed to take out 3 of her 4 stitches. Over the past week we've spent the middle-of-the-night hours replacing bandages, administering meds and snuggling her to keep that paw away from her lick-happy tongue (which results in many a foot to the face).

She's now on a sedative (so that we can keep the cone on her cute little head), the cone, with a splint (so she can't chew through it). It's worked pretty well, but I hate keeping the cone on all the time. It was that or another (twice-as-expensive) surgery, so we've done everything we can to make this combo work.

Her hard plastic splint makes it sound like she's wearing high heels, which took some getting used to! It's also too slick for hardwood stairs, so we have to carry her down the stairs. Plus, Beemer is absolutely terrified of her. Apparently getting run into by a cone stops being fun after the first time.

I think it's fair to say we're all very ready for this a little adventure to be over. If anybody has a trick that got a very stubborn (and pain-immune) dog to leave a wound alone we'd absolutely love to hear it!

Also, the Easy Canvas Print gift card winners were announced on Saturday, so make sure you check to see if it was you!

Happy Monday friends. Let's make this week a good one.

  4. Oh no! So sad! Our dog just spent 3 weeks with the cone collar which was no fun at all. He barely left his bed the first few days but then decided that just barreling into/through stuff was the better way to go! My walls will never be the same :)

  5. Decorandthedog - Whoops, the ol' spam filter definitely slept in this morning. : ) And yes, I WISH she could understand that we're just trying to help. I'm afraid she thinks we're torturing her on purpose. She's been absolutely pathetic all weekend and it's breaking my heart!

Melissa - OH MY GOSH the banging into things. Between the cone and her splint she is one LOUD little puppy. I'm afraid she's going to have some awful whiplash by the time we take the cone off. Also, three weeks??? I don't know if I can last that long!!
