Apparently a "ceiling" is "important." Or something.
Nick pointed out that drywall would be tricky to install above the already-in-place upper cabinets, so this weekend found us getting the porch floor/kitchen ceiling ready for drywall.
Step one - vents!
Since this part of the kitchen ceiling is actually the floor of the porch (and therefore exposed to the great outdoors) we needed to vent the ceiling before we can pack in insulation and cover it up with drywall.
Once the vents were in place our next step was installing canister lights. They'll be (conveniently) hidden behind the beam, so we'll get all the function of can lights but they won't be visible unless you're standing right under them. Win. We chose the mini version, because I think they look better.
Nick would like me to point out that we also chose them because they actually fight in the joist space. Details.
Nick got all the lights wired to each other, so our next step is to get power to these babies!
Unfortunately, that involves fishing wire through the (not torn apart) ceiling and down a wall. Wish us luck.
ps - our canvas giveaway runs through tomorrow so you still have time to get in on the fun!
Let Nick know that ceilings are overrated..bring on the cabinets!!
ReplyDeleteKitchen ceiling...is the porch floor? I'm totally trying to picture where your kitchen is and I'm convinced it's in the basement. Unless you have a second level porch at the back of the house? Which would make more sense.
ReplyDeleteAnnnnyway, I'm glad you're tucking the canister lights away behind a beam. Their one of those things that definitely stick out in an old house (but I like them anyway!)
Ashley - Ha! Yes, we have a 2nd story porch...of the bathroom, no less! I guess that would've been really helpful to clarify. Thank goodness the kitchen isn't in the basement, because our basement is naaaasty.
ReplyDeleteSo.much.work. Good luck! You two are superheros in my book.
