random thoughts with Cindy

Ready for this? I’m feeling super random right now (or…..always), so here are some thoughts from my random brain to yours.

I prefer my coffee black. My favorite roast is Starbuck’s CafĂ© Verona, but their new blonde roast is also really tasty. I also love Starbucks mugs. I’ve read every book about Starbucks that I can get my hands on.  I’m downright obsessed with Starbucks, let’s be real.

Our new steam mop makes my world go ‘round. Or at least it makes our floors squeaky clean (for 10 seconds).

I love John Denver. No road trip is complete without him. On our recent trip to Utah I had the same JD CD on repeat for approx 7 hours. Nick discovered I do indeed have every last word memorized. He was thrilled.

I was born in Louisiana.

I would travel every month if our bank account would allow. The thought of staying in the state of Minnesota for an entire year makes me twitch.

I never been to Disneyworld. Or Disneyland. I’m not actually bothered by that fact, but we do occasionally give my parents grief for depriving us of that experience. But I actually don’t like crowds, especially on vacation, so I don’t think it’d work out very well. I’ll stick to National Parks.

I didn’t own a pair of heels until my sisters bought me a pair in college. Now I wear heels every single day and my favorite is a pair of 4” heels.

I want to paint our bedroom walls gray, but our comforter (that I adore) is chocolate brown. I’m not so sure those 2 colors work well together.

I don’t take naps. They make me cranky. REALLY cranky.

I actually don’t enjoy sleeping. My mom made a rule when I was a kid that I couldn’t set my alarm any earlier than 5:30am.

I’m always cold. Which is perfect, since we live in Minnesota. It’s so balmy here.

Ok, your turn! Tell me 3 random things about you. Or that you’re thinking right now. Or heck, what you wish you were eating right now.

Aaaaaand go!

  1. Let's see...
    1. I got my first tattoo this year for my 36th birthday. I kinda wish for more
    2. I'm wearing flip flops today in Wisconsin and it is snowing. I hate cold/winter but my wife and I have good jobs here and her family is here, so stay we do.
    3. I'm a closet Jimmy Buffett parrothead
    4. I can't wait to go on vacation to Florida next month

    1. Sounds like we're tracking with not loving the midwestern winters. Florida sounds like a fabulous place to be! But way to stick it out and keep the flip flops alive and well all winter long. I'm impressed!

  2. Wow- so much to comment on! I adore Starbucks too. You should work for them someday as the head of their marketing or something. You would rock, plus then maybe you could swing free Starbucks forever for your closest friends??? =D

You were born in Louisiana??? I never would have guessed.

I adore those heels. SO cute. I used to hate wearing heels too!

About the sleeping thing- now I know how you get so much done! so that's your secret. =)

Sadly, I'm way to tired to think about 3 random things about me. So I will just say one- yesterday Josh and I went on a ferris wheel for the first time ever, and I was super excited. However, as soon as it started moving I just about had a panic attack. I forgot how afraid of heights I am! Haha!

    1. YES. Free Starbucks for all. LOVE them so much.

And yes, secret's out. If I could take a pill and not sleep I'd be all over that. You know, if it was legal. Ha!

Can't wait to hear about your trip!!

  3. Agh- I just wrote a super long comment and it disappeared! So annoying. I think I said something about how Starbucks is awesome and you should work for their marketing department or something someday, and I love those heels, and now I know your secret why you get so much done every day because you barely sleep at all! Crazy lady.

My random thing (I can only think of one): I went on a ferris wheel yesterday with Josh for the first time ever. I was super excited until it started moving and I remembered my fear of heights. I just about had a panic attack! Awkward.

  4. Hi Cindy -

I have to ask - what steam mop did you get? I've been dying to get one for awhile but always go back and forth on the reviews. I have a black lab and we will soon be getting a second, so I appreciate feedback from a dog owner that realizes floors with our beloved animals around will never actually be clean for long!

    Thanks!

    1. We bought the Shark Pocket Mop on a black friday sale. We've been really impressed with it so far! I swear our grout is actually getting lighter. We use it on our tile and our hardwood and no issues with either one. We just throw the covers in the washer, so maintenance is really easy. I tried reading all the reviews too and got confused so I just went for the one on sale. We've been using it since the beginning of December and I love how fast it is and how easy it is to use. For us, it's been a definite winner. Especially for cleaning up muddy pawprints!!

  5. Well, having the experience of actually RAISING you, I can attest to everything you wrote as 100% true - with the exception of 'depriving' you of Disney. We bought you VHS tapes, didn't we?!?

    1. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make it through a week with just one cup of coffee. more power to you, girl! And I'm totally impressed by 7 marathons.

  7. I wore a grey cardigan with brown tights and boots and a deep purple skirt yesterday. I caught myself in the bathroom mirror later in the day and thought, "these colors would be amazing for a bedroom." Consider it.

    1. You've inspired me! Maybe I should re-think it. I'm really loving gray right now.

  8. Uh... what you said.
Except for the whole born in Louisiana thing. I actually had to just copy and paste that cause I didn't know how to spell Louisiana. I was homeschooled.

I haven't bought Cafe Verona in over a month and I'm not sure how much longer I can handle it. But Seattle's Best #5 is really good, too. And cheaper. More money for vacations.

    1. Ooo, I need to try that one. I'm all about saving moolah for the vacation fund!

  9. WHAT! you don't like sleeping? i'm the total opposite; let me sleep for 16 hours a day and i'd be so happy!

i really don't like big crowds either (another reason not to do a race, right?) and have never been to a disney-place and am ok with it. (i did get to go to seaworld tho)

3 randoms for me right now:
    1. moving to wausau (read: middle of no where wisconsin) terrifies me, especially when i have now learned i have no job. boredom is a large part of that fear.

    2. i really really really love water. if i couldn't have a drink of water when i needed it, i may keel over and/or freak out.

    3. i want to be a speed demon/power house at crossfit and have a hard time realizing that that is a long ways off...

    1. GIRL, you're going to be a freaking power house/speed demon before you know it. Especially with those crazy double unders you were pumping out this morning.

And I'm with you on the water. I left my water bottle at home yesterday and was a little bit dramatic about not having it here with me.

And finally, I'm gonna cry if I think about you moving that far away. : (

  10. First of all, I wanted to ask if you have been noticing any issues with the Shark? I've been looking at steam mops for a while now (three dogs + tile) and the reviews on the Sharks I saw were really unflattering. Maybe it was an older/different model? I'd love more details about it.

Second, it seems rude to ask a question without playing the game, so:
    1. I never drank coffee with any regularity or enjoyment until I was pregnant with my daughter. Now I am cut back to 1 cup a day and reaaallly missing that afternoon cup. Have to be good, though.

    2. I loved SO much growing up in Minnesota and now I live in Central Florida, where it's 85 degrees in February, and yesterday was both the first day of our state fair and the day we got out to take leaf-pile pictures of my two year old. Bizarro.

    3. It's one of my life's goals to set up a starter and make real, honest-to-goodness sourdough bread at home. I found a no-knead 18 hour recipe that kiiiiind of tastes like the real thing, but it's really not.

    1. I read all those reviews too and got really discouraged. We got a good deal on it though, and I was desperate, so we went for it. I love it. We haven't had any trouble at all (although, we only started using it at the beginning of December). I swear our grout is actually lightening up a teeny bit, too. It does sometimes leave some streaks, but I can fix that by changing the pad and running over it again. It's really quick and easy to use. I felt like I was just pushing dirty water around before, and now they're actually clean. It's so great. This is the model we have: http://www.amazon.com/Shark-S3501N-Deluxe-Steam-Pocket/dp/B0028MB3HM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329006279&sr=8-1 Let me know if you have any other questions about it!

I bet I would miss the seasons if we moved somewhere like FL. 85 right now sounds lovely, but it would definitely be weird.

For #3 - check in with Kim at Newly Woodwards. Her husband has a delicious sourdough bread recipe (I got to sample it last weekend!).

  11. 1. I love my coffee black too.

    2. I grew up in New Orleans.

    3. I'm looking forward to trying a new recipe tonight. Jamaican Beans and Rice!

  12. You have inspired me to make a random blog post for myself today! But first.....

-I'm not a coffee girl, more of a tea person myself. However my BF and I have a Keurig now which makes it the best of both worlds. He loves the Starbucks Pike Roast K cups, and I love the Hot Apple Cider!
-I am jealous of your steam mop, it is on my want list.
-JD, we were raised on to the point that now I can't handle it. I will take some old Elton John and Rod Stewart though!
-I was born in KY, but I lived in Kenner, LA for about 3 years when I was in middle school.
-I could travel all the time also. I do however get all weepy the day before about leaving the dogs though. That is my only downfall with it.
-I went to Disney when I was 5. If it helps you feel less left out, I really don't remember it all that much.
    - Heels, no thanks, tennis shoe girl here.
-Okay, so we have all shades of brown in our bedding, khaki microsuede headboard, brown carpet, and I wanted grey too. So I have settled on a "greige". It is Valspar "Marble Tile". I have a hot date with it next month to paint our bedroom! Maybe greige could work for you too.......
    - I love naps and sleeping! Especially when I am all huddled up with the furchildren. That's the best.
    - Hate the cold. BLAH! I'll take 70s at the beach any day!

Okay, sorry it was so long, I am off for my random blog post on my page now.....

  13. I lived in Florida during 7th grade and visited Disney World 18 times. It was great.
I was born in MN but visit the in-laws in Kaplan, LA all the time!
I always wake up at 4:45 am without an alarm and have for years.
I think the right shade of gray would work with chocolate brown!

    1. I agree!! My master bedroom is painted a rich chocolate brown, and our duvet set is gray and brown. The entire room has dark brown furniture with silver accents, silver decor and (coming soon) gray curtains!

    2. You guys are inspiring me! I may have to revisit the gray wall idea. Thanks!!!

  14. i'm going to second (and third, and fourth) all the other comments that our old living room was painted a slate grey and our sectional is chocolate brown...and it actually worked! Although I was definitely cautious about it too :).
