just do it january = win

Although it was far from perfect, Just Do It January was a raging success. Especially the ending.

One Tuesday morning in mid-January my younger sister and I spontaneously booked flights to Seattle, leaving less than 2 weeks from our booking date. We saw a fare sale, we texted briefly, we booked the flights. Just Do It January for the win.

No, we're not twins. Yes, you're the first person to ask.

A week ago today we hopped on a plane and jetted off to our favorite place on earth. We spent 3 short days falling in love with Seattle all over again, hugging friends we love so dearly and eating a ridiculous amount of food. And drinking coffee, obviously.

We visited Alki Beach (awesome view of the skyline!), toured Theo chocolate factory (ate our body weight in chocolate), meandered around Pike Place, ate sushi, drank coffee, ate teriyaki, drank coffee, tasted local Washington wines, ate more chocolate, drank more coffee, ate more food.

At the Theo chocolate factory. Rocking our hairnets LIKE A BOSS.

Yes, it rains in Seattle. All the stories you've heard are true. Yes, it rained the entire time we were there. I would still take the rain and upper 40's over a Minnesota winter. Honestly, I absolutely love the rain. True story.

Thursday morning we tried to get bumped off our flight, which would've extended our stay in Seattle by a full 24 hours. No luck. I'll be honest, friends. It was hard to leave that place. I know it's always hard to re-enter the real world after vacation, but Seattle holds my heart like no other place can.

I'm already plotting a return trip that will involve more hiking and kayaking and all the things I love so much about Seattle. Like coffee. And friends. And rain.

Also, I highly recommend purchasing airline tickets on a whim. It might be the best thing you do for your soul all year.

Also. Help! Has anyone found a work-around for the iPhone 4S error where you can't rotate photos once you download them on your computer? Super crazy annoying.

  2. I feel the same way about Seattle! Also, I don't know how to fix the iphone bug other than I'm now learning to take pictures with my phone turned the "correct" way even though it feels wrong. Sorry!

  3. I didn't know that was an error! I figured out I have to "save as" to another file and then I can rotate them and the rotates save. Thought it was my computer.

    1. Yes!! I actually lived in Oregon for a year and a half as a kid. I haven't been back in a long time, though. I'd love to visit Portland as an adult.

    1. One of my bucket list items is to kayak the San Juans! I've been there but not spent nearly as much time on/around them as I'd like!

Also, I think Jen is voted best-looking in a hair net. How does she do that?

  8. What a FUN and spontaneous trip! That's awesome that you went for it!

Rain doesn't sound fun to me, but I guess it's relative. = )

  9. So Pike Place was awesome indeed. However, I found the first Starbucks to be quite underwhelming.

    1. Here's my Starbucks-diehard-lover confession: I've still never actually been IN the original 'bucks. We walked past but it was busy and I didn't feel an overwhelming desire to set foot in the first store.
